First off, your spymac webspace is referred to as "SpyDisk". FTP access is no longer available for free accounts. To upload into your free webspace, use WebFTP and put the files you want available online in the /html/ directory.

The files can then be accessed from this address: http://user.spymac.net/filename.extension

The filename and extension are case sensitive. Therefore, if you uploaded a file to the server called PiCTure.JPg, you would need to enter the URL as: http://user.spymac.net/PiCTure.JPg

Otherwise, you would receive a "404 Not Found" error.

Or, you could opt to use WebDAV. WebDAV is "Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning."

To use this method, follow the following instructions.

In OS X

1. In Finder
2. Choose "Connect to Server" or use Command+K
3. Enter "http://your_member_name.spymac.net:81" for the address.
4. Enter username (lower case) and password.

In Windows XP

1. Open "My Network Places"
2. Choose "Add Network Place" This will open a wizard. Click "Next"
3. Choose "Choose another network location
4. Enter "http://your_member_name.spymac.net:81"
5. Enter your username (lower case) and password when asked for it.
6. Open the new "web folder" to view its contents.
7. For added convenience, drag a shortcut of the HTML folder to your desktop.

In Win98/98SE/ME/2000

1. Double-Click on the "My Network Places" icon on your Windows desktop.
2. Double-Click on the "Add Network Place" icon. This will start the Web Folder Wizard.
3. Type http://member_name.spymac.net:81/ and click "Next"
4. Type in your username (lower case) and password at the prompt and then click "Ok"
5. Name your Web Folder and then click on the "Finish" button.
6. Open the new "web folder" to view its contents.
7. For added convenience, drag a shortcut of the HTML folder to your desktop.

You cannot upload to your webspace by using a browser.

WebDAV will allow you to access the server as if it were a local folder, dragging and dropping files that you wish to upload. It may not be as fast as FTP, but it is easier.

"No valid directory" error

Sometimes when you try to upload through WebFTP, you may get the "No valid directory" error message. That happens when you had a fair amount of downloads from your site, and it would get identified as someone sharing warez. As warez is prohibited on spymac servers, the account would be deactivated. To get it back on, please contact Tech Support by sending an email to techsupport@spymac.com. It's an automated system, so just let them know if it happens again and they'll bring it right back up.
